Since 2013, Privium Fund Management (Privium) has been involved in impact investing for several of its investment funds. From its Amsterdam office, Privium currently manages several impact funds and is involved in the setup of new impact funds.
FMO Privium Impact Fund
The FMO Privium Impact Fund (FPIF) was launched in June 2016 in collaboration with the Dutch development bank FMO. The fund co-invests in both existing and new loans provided to the clients of FMO in emerging and frontier markets. Investments by the fund include loans to financial institutions, agricultural businesses and renewable energy infrastructure. FPIF aims to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Climate Action (SDG 13).
More information about the fund can be found on this page and the FPIF website.
Biodiversity Impact Fund
In collaboration with Impact Orange Partners (IOP), Privium is currently setting up the Biodiversity Impact Fund (BIF). This fund of funds addresses the following investable biodiversity themes:
- Regenerative Agriculture
- Sustainable Forestry
- Ocean Preservation & Sustainable Fishery
- Agri- & Aquatech
Based on a Theory of Change, the BIF intends to reduce negative effects (e.g., deforestation, use of pesticides) and increasing positive effects (e.g., habitat restoration, new agricultural techniques) on biodiversity, while achieving a financial return. The fund aims to contribute to SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life on Water) and 15 (Life on Land).
More information about the fund can be found on the website of IOP.
Amsterdam Climate & Energy Fund
The first impact fund managed by Privium was the Amsterdam Climate & Energy Fund (Amsterdams Klimaat & Energiefonds, AKEF) that was launched in October 2013. Privium was the manager of the fund until 2019. The fund was set up to contribute to the sustainable objectives of the city council of Amsterdam, with the city of Amsterdam as the main investor. The fund invests in initiatives related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and circularity.
